Saheed Azeez, a UNILAG undergraduate, is doing something that’s both innovative and proudly Nigerian - using data from Nairaland to create GPT-2 tokens.
What’s that in plain English?
Azeez took conversations from Nairaland (yes, that forum where you find everything from political hot takes to wedding drama). Then, turned it into tokens to train AI to understand Nigeria - our slang, culture, and everything that makes us, well, us!

What They Ordered: Data Engineer
What They Got: First of all, I genuinely don’t think that the management team understood the role of a data engineer before putting out vacancies. The job description said, "Build and optimize our data pipeline to empower smarter business decisions." What I actually do? Build Excel dashboards and run weekly reports for the marketing team.
I’m also in charge of fixing errors in our outdated database, and every time something goes wrong, they call me because “You’re the data guy”. But when I ask for modern tools to streamline processes, they tell me to just make do with what we have.
Salary: 200,000 naira/month.
Is it Worth It? Let’s just say I’m actively applying somewhere else.
Where They Work: A logistics startup
Anything Else? I don’t see a future here, tbh. I feel like just the guy that gets called every time someone’s laptop won’t turn on. It’s honestly not what I signed up for and it’s exhausting at this point.
